The tech landscape is changing. Artificial intelligence has expanded computer science and introduced complex new tools into every sector. At the same time, the gender gap in tech has widened from women representing 37% of computer scientists in 1995 to only 24% today.
Girls Who Code is working with educators and communities to close the gender gap in tech and change the image of what a programmer looks like and does. We do this by providing comprehensive programming, curricula, and resources to students and the communities who serve them to ensure they are equipped for 21st century industry. Since launching in 2012, Girls Who Code has reached 580,000 young people, with our 185,000 college/career-age alums majoring in CS and related fields at 7x the national average. Our emphasis on computational thinking and wraparound services are designed to meet student needs from their first days in our programs, all the way through securing their dream roles.
Participants will join us to learn about AI in education and how to build inclusive programs - equipping students with the confidence and skills they need to make a positive impact on their community and career.
In this presentation, we will feature our Girls Who Code Clubs, where 3rd-5th or 6th-12th graders of all genders learn how to positively impact their community through code and how to be brave and resilient - which has impact on how they approach challenges and if they stick with coding in the years to come. Together, we will participate in hands-on activities that educators can walk away with, and brainstorm ways to bring inclusive best practices, tips, & tools to their communities - no matter their level of coding experience.
