For this week's segment of Ask5, Navigating Leadership Development in Healthcare, I had the opportunity to interview Nakesha Vines, '20. Nakesha shared her journey through leadership development, in particular in the area of healthcare. She shared insight on honing skills like decision-making, conflict resolution, and strategic planning – the very tools you'll wield in the area of risk management and her wisdom as an experienced leader and that path that brought her here.
Bio: Nakesha Vines has worked for the New York State government since 2001. Previously a New York State Correction Lieutenant while she worked for corrections since 2001, she is currently the Director of Clinical Risk Management within a New York State Office of Mental Health facility. In 2012 while working full-time, Nakesha went back to school. She obtained a Registered Nurse license in 2017 and earned her Bachelors of Science in of Nursing in 2020. Her plan is to obtain the Masters of Science in Nursing. After retirement, she plans on practicing nursing. Nakesha a member of the American Corrections Association (ACA); the American Nursing Association (ANA); and the American Psychiatric Nursing Association (APNA). Nakesha resides in the Hudson Valley area of New York and she enjoys many activities such as camping, hiking, fishing and reading books with her favorite book clubs in her past time.
