Bio: Michael Simmons serves as the Director, North Atlantic Area, Small Business/Self-Employed (SB/SE) Field Examination. In this role, he provides executive direction for field examination activities in Connecticut, Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Rhode Island, and Vermont.
Prior to this assignment, Michael served in various executive level positions within the SB/SE Division; these include: acting Director, Examination Case Selection; acting Director, North Atlantic Area; and Assistant to Director, Specialty Examination. He also served as a program manager in Examination Planning, Performance and Analysis; Examination Field and Campus Policy; and Office of Servicewide Penalties in the SB/SE Division.
Michael joined IRS in 1986 as a tax examiner in Austin, TX. He is a certified public accountant and holds a Bachelor of Business Administration degree in Accounting from Southwest Texas State University.
