Human Trafficking 101: Is it Here, is it There, or is it Everywhere

 In recognition of Human Trafficking Prevention month, please join alumnus Brianna Phillips for an in-depth conversation on Human Trafficking; defining what it is and how it can be identified in our local communities.

There will be an opportunity to hear about the vulnerabilities and risk factors that each of us have and how to protect ourselves and others.  How a professional can identify warning signs that throughout the various sectors including educational, medical, law enforcement, and human services.

And lastly, we will review cases that have occurred locally and share steps for how you can assist others and connect them to your local resources.

About Our Presenter:

Brianna Phillips ’17 is the Street Outreach & Safe Harbour Program Manager at CAPTAIN Community Human Services, whose missions is to support and empower  people of all ages to reach their goals of personal growth and self-sufficiency.

 As the Safe Harbour Program Manager, one of Brianna’s many roles is to support counties in developing their capacity to identify youth who have been trafficked, sexually exploited, or at risk of victimization, and to meet identified service needs of these youth. Additionally, the Street Outreach team works to identify and serve youth who have been identified as high risk, or confirmed survivors of human trafficking.

 Brianna graduated from SUNY Empire in 2017 with a Bachelor of Science in Community and Human Services. In 2019, she was named to the Class of 2019 of the Capital District New Leaders Council. While enrolled at Empire she was a member of the college’ Student Leadership Institute and worked as a student assistant in the Office of Student Life.
